I'm sick and tired and I need to say it...

I draw cats. I don't expect to go anywhere with it. I have no idea what I want to major in college. I don't know what I want my career to be. I have dreams, but I am also a realist.

I'm learning to draw humans. But want to know something funny? It's not EASY. It's not something you can learn on the spot. So I am really tired of people who can draw them bitching about people who always draw animals. Honestly, get over it. You have your art, other people have theirs.

I draw cats. Want to know why? Because I taught myself how in 5th grade. I was naive and thought it was ridiculously cool, since I only knew about Lion King Fanart. I didn't know about DeviantART. That came later, when I was too far in. Now, I have to start all over trying to learn people. I will repeat, it's not easy. I can't draw people without photo reference, and my recycling can is full of unwanted and dejected sketches that look like shit.

So if maybe you would think of the people who are trying to expand next time you bitch about us, then that would be cool.

I kinda had the same problem when I started thinking about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I loved to draw shitty lion king fan art, and I also loved working for my school districts stage and tech crew. Solution? I'm now determined to be a scenic designer :] Drawing/planning scenery out and then actually building it.

If you're really not sure though what you want to do, would you consider going to a community college for a year or so? You can take a class on just about anything and that can maybe point ya in the right direction. That's what I did; I was orignally going to a school that was more technically focused [lighting, sound, video] and not artistically based. I wasnt ready to give up my art so I'm hanging at community college until 2009, then transfering to an actual campus :]

Remember, it's never too late to improve on your art or any skill for that matter, and just because college is ahead of you doesnt mean you have to become better immediately. Take your time, you get the best results that way!

Blech. Humans are hard. I agree completely. Don't fret though. Everyone's just jealous of your skills with animals. =D

Myself.
Amen to that. Most of the time, when I draw lions, people say to me, 'is that all you can draw?. :p I tell them, of course not, but I just like drawing lions. Then insert weird look from them after that.

Humans are indeed very hard to draw. Funny that when you draw something on four legs first, drawing things on two legs is harder. :D People see drawing humans as expanding their artistic horizons, but to me art is something personal, and I draw to appease myself, and while feedback is nice, it's enough for me if I satisfy myself.

I mean, at the end of the day, though you may browse through art looking for what you like, if you can get it right, you can draw the kind of art you like.

Haha, this turned into an awful long rant, so I think I'll stop.
